Well, Irene Goodman is doing more critique auctions for charity starting yesterday. This link is to her interview with Chuck Sambuchino: http://networkedblogs.com/p26446079 In the interview she talks about mystery opening scenes beginning with a grisly murder. My mystery start is a cliche. I am so depressed.
Yeah, but I bet yours doesn't fall apart after a few pages. It's not starting with a dead body that's the problem, it's not being able to maintain that level of intensity for the rest of the book.
At this point, I don't even know if the dead body is intense enough. It's raining and gloomy and I think I'm due for a pity party.
